Help

how do I get started? Not familiar with hmvdigital? Here are a couple of tips to help you get started:

  • If you know exactly what you’re after, use the search bar at the top of every page to look for a particular artist, album or track. Or if you’re in need of some inspiration, check out our charts on the left-hand side of the page, or use the tabs under the search bar to browse by a particular genre.
  • Next to every track (and on every album cover) you’ll see a small triangle icon. Click this to hear a 30-second preview of the song. You can pause or stop the preview using the player in the top right-hand corner. The player will store multiple previews as a play list. Just click on the down arrow on the player to access or clear this list.
  • Once you’ve found something you like, click ‘add to basket’ to buy the whole album/bundle, or click on the ‘plus’ sign to add a single track. If that’s all you’re after, you can proceed to payment. Otherwise, continue browsing.
  • When you’re ready to pay, click ‘checkout’ on the right-hand side. If you don’t have an account you’ll need to set one up. You can find out more about paying below.
  • Once you’ve paid, you’ll be directed to My Downloads. This is where all your previously purchased downloads are kept. You can find out more about downloading below.

Downloading

What is the quickest/easiest way to download tracks?

If you wish to download several tracks at the same time, the quickest and easiest option is to use the hmv Download Manager (see below).

What is the hmvdigital Download Manager and how do I use it?

Our new download manager allows you to download multiple tracks from hmv at the same time, and 'queue' them for downloading rather than clicking on each download individually.

This is a small application that is easy and safe to install: please click here to download and follow the on-screen instructions.

Please note that our new download manager is compatible with Mac and PC

Once you have installed the new hmv download manager on your PC or Mac, you can download tracks and albums from your "my downloads" as follows:

1. On your downloads page, make sure that the grey box labelled "Use the HMV Download Manager to download files." is checked. This is located at the top of your downloads page just above "my downloads".
2. To download an entire album click on the “Download All” icon.
3. To download an individual track from an album, click on the black arrow next to the album artwork to display the tracks. Click on the green ‘download’ icon on the right side of the track listing to add the track to the new download manager.

Every time you click on a track or album to download, you should see confirmation pop-up window in the bottom right side of your screen. This window indicates how many items have been added to the download manager.

If you wish to change the destination folder for future downloads, open the download manager and select "Chose download location" from the Downloads menu.

From here you have 2 options:

1. "Let iTunes manage my downloads" - By selecting this option your music downloads will be automatically added to your iTunes library.
2. "I'll manage the downloads myself, thanks" - By selecting this option you can specify where you would like your music downloads saved. To do this, simply click the Browse button, select your desired download folder and click OK.

Where has my music been downloaded to?

If you downloaded the track manually, you may have accidentally opened it directly from the site instead of saving it to your hard drive. If this is the case, you should either conduct a search for the file or download it again, making sure that you follow the instructions here.

Please note that you do not have to purchase a track again in order to download it a second time - it can be accessed and downloaded again from your my downloads.

If you have used the hmvdigital Download Manager to download your files, open the Manager and click on the icon at the bottom left of the window that says 'OPEN FOLDER'. You can change the destination folder for your downloads by going to FILE > SET FOLDER

Why does my download stop at 99%?

If you are using an external download manager (e.g. FDM, Microsoft Download Manager or similar software), this program may be preventing you from being able to fully download a track.

How do I download one track at a time?

In your my downloads section of your account, click on the pink Show All Tracks underneath the album title to display the tracks. Then follow these instructions according to the browser you are using.

1. To download a file manually using Internet Explorer, click on the white Arrow icon on the right side of the track listing and select ‘Save As’. You should save the file to the folder where you want to store your download.

2. To download a file manually using Firefox, click on the green ‘download’ icon on the right side of the track listing. In the pop-up window, change the selection from ‘Open’ to ‘Save File’. Firefox will typically save the file to a default folder. To identify or change the default folder, go to TOOLS > OPTIONS>MAIN in your Firefox browser.

3. To download a file manually using Safari, click on the white Arrow icon on the right side of the track listing and select ‘Save’. You should save the file to the folder where you want to store your downloads.

4. To download a file manually using Google Chrome, click on the white Arrow icon on the right side of the track. The file will automatically be saved to a folder called ‘Downloads’ in your ‘My Documents’ folder. To change the destination folder for your download, click on the ‘tool’ icon to the right of the address bar. Select ‘Options’ and go to ‘Minor Tweaks’.
