If you need more information on how to download from hmvdigital, we’ve put together a list of Frequently Asked Questions below. Otherwise, feel to contact our customer services team using the form below
However, if you’re up to speed already, jump right in and discover a whole new way to love music by browsing hmvdigital now.
Our audio downloads are offered in MP3 format at one of the following qualities: MP3 320Kb/s, MP3 256Kb/s or MP3 192Kb/s. This means you get a high quality audio file at a manageable file size. The quality of each download is indicated on the product page, just above the price.
MP3s are universally compatible across all digital media players including iPods, mobile phones and smart-phones, PC and Mac, PDAs and other music playing devices.
They're also 100% free from DRM (digital rights management) software, so you can burn your songs to CD's, play them on your computer, and transfer them to all your MP3-capable devices without restrictions.
MP3s are compatible with almost everything. Meaning you can play them on any MP3-capable device, including iPods, Zunes, Zens, iPhones, RAZRs, BlackBerrys, and most media-enabled mobile phones.
All new MP3s will contain artwork, but downloads from the older part of our catalogue might not. However, we are working to make sure there’s artwork with everything.
When you order before the release date (i.e. pre-order), your purchase will appear in a special section of My Downloads called 'Pre-Orders', with the release date listed on the right. On (or after) this date, just sign in and go to My Downloads and they'll be waiting for you.
You will be charged for this pre-order at the time of purchase, this happens as the product or track has already been delivered to your account but has a restriction in place that stops you from downloading the actual files until the day of release, as such hmv are obliged to pay the label at the point of purchase.
Yes! One of the great things about hmvdigital is that you can give people downloads as a present. It’s a great way to share music. Here’s how you do it:
1. Find the download(s) you wish to give and add them to your basket.
2. Click on the ‘Gift This’ link that appears below your basket. (You’ll need to sign into your account if you’re not already).
3. Complete the ‘Gifting’ section on the left-hand side of Checkout page, with your friend’s email address, your name, message and the date you’d like it delivered.
4. Enter and submit your payment details to complete the transaction.
And that’s it! You friend doesn’t need to have an hmvdigital account at this stage. We’ll email them with instructions on how to download their gift.
If you are having difficulty purchasing, or for any other reason, please contact our customer services team
Yes - share the stuff you love (or the stuff you think they’ll love) by recommending an album or track to a friend. Just scroll down to the bottom of the page and enter you friend’s details in the ‘share’ section, and we’ll do the rest.
Unfortunately not. Tracks are removed from your basket each time you log out of your hmvdigital account or close your browser. But stay tuned; we’ll soon be adding a function that lets you save tracks for later.
Nope. We’ll only charge you for downloads, at the point of purchase.
If you can’t find them through our advanced search, then we probably don’t have them in our catalogue at the moment. It could be that the content hasn’t been licensed for digital distribution yet, or that it hasn’t been licensed for the UK. It’s best to check back from time-to-time, as it could become available in the future.
hmvdigital sells digital downloads only. However, we’ve got a massive range of CDs available on www.hmv.com. And, of course, you can always pop down to your local hmv store.
This comes from the suppliers. It could be because the track is too long or the supplier might not have the rights to sell the track individually (which is usually the case with soundtracks and compilations).
For every download we sell, hmvdigital pays royalties to the record companies that supply (or “license”) the audio to us, and also to any songwriters involved. The price of each download will be determined by the prices these companies charge us. Where an album is at a lower price, this normally means that the price that we pay to the supplier is also lower.
Our suppliers will often provide more than one format for a particular album and this sometimes means an album can get listed more than once. We do try to keep duplicate listings to a minimum. However, it can get a bit complicated as these versions can disappear or change at any point.
