The Oxford, U.K., indie trio the Young Knives took four years to become an "overnight" success. Their first EP was released in 2002, but the band's full-length debut, VOICES OF ANIMALS AND MEN, wasn't delivered until August 2006. Simultaneously recalling Wire, Sparks, a bit of the classic Britpop sound, and even a little Queen, Young Knives featured the sort of angular guitars and brisk punk melodies that marked many an early-2000s U.K. indie act, but it was the complex, near-theatrical vocal arrangements that set them apart from many of their post-punk-reviving contemporaries.
