Queen

Queen embodied 1970s glam rock--mixing heavy riffs and intricate vocal harmonies with a gender-bending image. Freddie Mercury's operatic voice and Brian May's guitar were multi-tracked ad infinitum to create pomp-rock in the grandest sense. In the '80s, Queen tried on rockabilly, disco, and more, but always returned to their arena-rock roots. Mercury's tragic AIDS-related death in 1991 effectively drew a line under the band's career. However the surviving trio never officially disbanded and in 2002 they unveiled the musical, WE WILL ROCK YOU. In late-2004, May and Taylor teamed up with Paul Rodgers--Free/Bad Company vocalist--to perform at the UK Hall Of Fame Awards. The unlikely collaboration was then extended for a World tour the following year, and late-2006 plans for a new recording were announced.
