Noah and the Whale is a four-piece folk-rock band from London's Twickenham area. They formed in 2006, taking their name from writer/director Noah Baumbach and his 2005 feature, THE SQUID AND THE WHALE, and consist of singer/guitarist Charlie Fink, fiddler Tom Hobden, bassist Matt Owens, and drummer Doug Fink. British folk-rock singer Laura Marling was a part-time member of Noah and the Whale in its early days, though she left the band to concentrate on her solo career. The group's debut album, PEACEFUL, THE WORLD LAYS ME DOWN, came out in the summer of 2008.
