Coldcut consists of Jonathan Moore and Matt Black, two London DJs who helped popularise the "acid" house subgenre in the 1980s. Coldcut's influential early singles and high-profile remix work--most notably Eric B & Rakim's "Paid In Full"--took the underground sound from the clubs and onto the U.K. charts. In 1988 they released their full-length debut, WHAT'S THAT NOISE, helping to launch the careers of Yazz and Lisa Stansfield. In the ensuing years, the duo set up the hugely influential breakbeat record label Ninja Tunes, and launched the U.K. radio station, Kiss FM.
